Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino Aftermovie

Sunday, August 13, 2017. 1pm

“Hey, Dad. Guess what? Your daughter’s gonna be an action star any minute now...sort of.”

(You can check out all the trailers of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino entries at the bottom.)

The adrenaline of jumping in and out of the floats, playing Patintero with vans and buses in the middle of Manila traffic, and hitchhiking a ride from MMDA officers was incomparable. I was recommended by a friend to join Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (Filipino Film Festival) as volunteer videographer under FDCP (Film Development Council of the Philippines).

I don’t commute as much as possible to avoid the hassle of our country’s sad excuse for mass transportation system but since I was up to try something new that day, why not start it by catching a train in the morning? There wasn’t a morning rush since it was a Sunday, but the walk from LRT-United Nations station to Quirino Grandstand was no joke, especially when you’re running late (again). Everyone I worked with that day was very accommodating given the fact that we were just introduced that day.

I was thrilled when I found out that I was the only woman to cover the motorcade, at least from our group. Everyone who knows me know that I love to challenge the expectation of what a woman’s job “should be”. #empoweredwomen

(Two muslim women enjoying the event.)

The program started at 10 in the morning with cultural performances from NCAA, MMDA, and Palarong Pinoy. Inflatables made the kids and kids-at-heart stoked for this one of a kind family day.

Performances from the stars of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino left the crowd in awe. Some even won festival passes by joining games.

I’m pretty sure everyone enjoyed their family day as much as I did. Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino Premiere Night is on August 15, 2017 in SM Megamall. You can catch these awesome films nationwide from August 16-22.
